Sin City Sinners - Zebra Lounge at the Palazzo - Las Vegas, NV - 8/5/12

On a recent trip to Vegas I was reading one of those "What To Do In Vegas" magazines and came across a mention of the band Sin City Sinners. Next to the text was a photo of the band and there I saw a familiar face. I couldn't quite place the musician but it was someone that I recognized from the past. I did a little more research and found out that it was none other than Faster Pussycat's founding member Brent Muscat. I was intrigued to say the least. Who were these guys? Why is Brent Muscat in this band? These guys looked like a kick ass rock n' roll band and according to the article had recently been named “Best In Vegas” in the Las Vegas Review Journals Reader’s Poll. I had to find out more about them.

It turns out that the glory days of the Sunset Strip haven't gone away they just moved east into the desert. Brent has assembled his own rotating band of glam metal all stars and dubbed them the Sin City Sinners. The band is based in Vegas and not only has a set of great core members but also has a list of guest surprise musicians that reads like a who's who of Headbanger's Ball alumni.

I had been trying to catch one of their gigs the past few times in town and now I was finally getting my chance tonight at the Zebra Lounge inside the Palazzo Hotel. I wasn't sure what to expect since it I read that each show was unique. Regular lead singer Todd Kerns is currently on tour with Slash's band. Filling in on vocals this evening was Louie Merlino, lead singer of the band Beggars & Thieves. Brent Muscat  played rhythm guitar and former Aerosmith guitarist Jimmy Crespo played lead. Multi-talented Zachary Throne played bass and sang lead on several of the songs.  Rob Cournoyer of Raging Slab fame was behind the drums.

To say this band is talented is an understatement. These guys are all seasoned pros and all excellent musicians. Playing in a casino atmosphere tonight they played mostly covers. They performed songs from Kiss, Cheap Trick, Guns & Roses and The Ramones just to name a few. The highlight of the evening was their amazing cover of Aerosmith's "Mama Kin" which I'm sure Jimmy Crespo had played a thousand times as a member of Aerosmith in the early 1980's. The band also had a chance to throw in a few originals including the song "Goin' to Vegas" from the debut album Exile on Fremont St. Check out the their video for the song with a special guest appearance by Ron Jeremy.

Judy and I had a chance to talk to Brent Muscat after the show. He said that he moved to Vegas around 2004. He liked the fact that Vegas had many venues in town and that he could play several gigs a week without having to travel. It gives him the opportunity to sleep in his own bed every night. Judy and I like it because it gives us an opportunity to see kick ass Sunset Strip style rock n' roll whenever we are in town. Next time you are in Sin City check them out. If you like classic rock or yearn for the heyday of glam metal you won't be disappointed.
